We are a designer couple based in Melaka, Malaysia, who launched its brand Sambal&Cheese in 2015. My partner Farris is Malaysian and I (Emily) am French.
For the record, our brand name refers to culinary specialties from our respective countries! Sambal is a chili paste that comes with most Malaysian dishes. Cheese is a specialty linked to France when we don’t talk about its wine or its baguette 😉
But let’s come back to our activity! Very attached to our city, we pay tribute to it every day through our creations. Our first project Nyawa Kedua, second life in Malay, is still going on today. It is about giving a new life to salvaged materials, rescued from old abandoned and/or torn down houses. Wood is our material of choice, but we also work with other recycled materials and objects.
For the past three years, our collection has been enriched with macramé creations, such as wall decorations, jewelry, and accessories.
Discover our projects, our news but also articles on sustainability, slow living, slow decoration and recipes on our blog.
